Price logic on the platform

The price logic on the platform determines which price is shown to a customer for an article. In this article, you will learn how prices from catalogues, price lists, and interfaces interact and which rules apply.

Table of contents

Overview of price logic

Prices on the platform can come from different sources. The price logic ensures that the correct price is automatically shown to each customer.

Several factors are taken into account, such as customer assignments, validity periods, or different catalogue types.

Price sources on the platform

Prices can come from the following sources:

  • Catalogue prices (stored in the BMEcat catalogue)
  • Price lists (customer-specific prices via CSV file)
  • Price web service (real-time prices from your system)

The following generally applies:

  • Price lists override catalogue prices
  • The price web service overrides all other price sources

Price logic in detail

The platform applies the following rules to determine prices:

No price list available

  • The prices from the catalogue are used

Price list available

  • The prices from the price list are used

Price list contains fewer articles than the catalogue

  • Articles in both sources → price from the price list
  • Remaining articles → price from the catalogue

Multiple price lists or catalogues

  • The best-price logic applies
  • The lowest available price is always shown

Multiple price lists with overlapping periods

  • The lowest price from all currently valid price lists is used

Special cases and priorities

Price web service

  • Prices are retrieved in real time from your system
  •  No conflicts arise between multiple price sources

Public vs. closed catalogue

  • A closed (partner) catalogue always takes priority over a public catalogue
  • Assigned price lists likewise take priority
  • Customers always see the prices from the closed area
  • This also applies if these prices are higher

Validity of prices

The validity of prices depends on several factors:

Price lists can be time-limited (start and end date)

  • Only currently valid price lists are taken into account
  • If no valid price list is available, the catalogue price is used automatically

After the upload, the following applies:

  • Price lists automatically become active after processing
  • A customer assignment is required
  • The status can be viewed in the portal at any time

The end date of the price list is inclusive: a price list with an end date of 15.06.2026 is still valid for the entirety of 15.06.2026 and only expires from the start of 16.06.2026.

With the price web service, prices are determined in real time when the article is called up.

What happens if a price list does not contain all articles?
For these articles, the prices from the catalogue continue to be used.

What happens when the price web service is used?
All prices are loaded in real time from your system and completely override other price sources.
